January’s RCPC and RPC Good News

Here are some of the good things students in the RCPC and RPC programs have been up to recently. Take a minute to acknowledge all the great work we have been doing!

Publications

• Tony Guerra, with some colleagues in Veterinary Medicine, published “Is cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) a chloride channel or a chloride pump?” in Molecules and Medicinal Chemistry.
• Kathy Rose has a forthcoming chapter in WAW: Next Steps entitled “WAWOVE: Weaving Oral, Visual, and Electronic Modes into WAW.”
• Danica Schieber just published her last issue as head editor of the Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis (JCTP). You can read any of these social justice articles here: http://lib.dr.iastate.edu/jctp/

Non-Refereed Publications

• Bryan Lutz published the first in a two part series on the blog for the Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis (JCTP). The post is titled “A student-led protest against Donald Trump: On diversity and inclusion,” published here.

Conference Presentations and Workshops

• Matt Baker and Vince Robles will present “Fostering Symbolic-Analytic Editing Values in Advanced Communication Students” at CCCC in April.
• Matt Baker and Vince Robles have been accepted to participate in a research methods workshop at ATTW titled “Genre Fingerprinting” (which will be facilitated by ISU alumni Scott Graham).
• Phil Gallagher will present at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association conference.
• Tony Guerra will present “Interdisciplinary Education with Colleges and Schools of Pharmacy” at the 2016 Pharmacy Technician Educator’s Council (PTEC) Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina in July.
• Mariah Kemp will present “The Bungling Bailey” at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association conference.
• Lauren Malone will present at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association conference.
• Rachel Murdock and Matt Baker presented at NCA in Las Vegas in November about the Narratives of Job Loss.
• George Standifer will present “Looking Through Mary Oliver’s Mind’s Eye: A Visual Fractal Analysis of ‘August'”at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association conference.
• Bremen Vance will present “Video Games to Money: Theme Based Writing Courses and Discourse Analysis” at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association conference.

Grants

• Amanda Arp and Samantha Dunn were awarded a Teaching as Research (TAR) Grant to support their research on High Ability Member’s Perceptions of their Team and Team-based Learning in the Speech Communication 212 classroom. The TAR grant was awarded by Iowa State’s Center for Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL)
• Kathy Rose received a TAR grant from CIRTL for her work with an upper division learning community.

Awards

• Rachel Murdock received the Iowa Communication Association’s Adjunct Instructor of the Year award in September.

Organizations

• Jill Grauman was nominated to the Writing Program Administrators-Graduate Organization (WPA-GO) graduate committee. (Elections will begin Friday, Feb. 12. For more information on this election, you can visit this website: http://wpacouncil.org/node/7162)
