Open in new tab The goal of this assignment was to take a current technical document, and make changes that create a better message, and appearance. I chose to use a letter written by Stehpen Elop to his employees while he was at Microsoft. He was telling them about some layoffs that were made by management, but he did it in a very round about and passive fashion. It was almost as if he was too scared to make the announcement. To fix this, I greatly shortened the letter, and made his message more direct. I also added an appropriate header and closer to help convey the serious message. This all resulted in a concise and well designed letter that is a much more effective form of communication then the original. Please read the associated blog post here.
